Christmas

As we enter this Christmas season I pray that we’ll keep our eyes on the true meaning of Christmas. It is so easy to get sidetracked and lose focus on what is most important. As you go through this season, remember that God came from heaven to earth in the form of man.

Philippians 2: 6-11  Although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The God of the Universe came to earth from heaven through His Son Jesus. For so many the only thing they know about God's name is that you shouldn't use it in vain. But there's so much more to know including the fact that He has many different names.  Here are only fore of His names, what they mean, and how they can be a personal introduction to a more intimate understanding of God's heart and character.

• Jehovah Rohi: “The Lord my Shepherd” - Portrays the Lord as the Shepherd who cares for His people as a shepherd cares for the sheep of his pasture (Ps. 23:1)

• Jehovah Tsidkenu: “The Lord our righteousness” - Portrays the Lord as the means of our righteousness (Jer. 23:6).

• Jehovah Nissi: “The Lord our Banner” - Stresses that God is our rallying point and our means of victory; the one who fights for His people (Ex. 17:15).

• Immanuel: “God with us” – Stresses that God is always with us. (Isaiah 7:14).
